At TeamKids, we believe child safety requires dedicated expertise and continuous improvement – not simply meeting minimum standards.
That’s why we appointed a dedicated Child Safeguarding & Wellbeing Manager to provide specialist leadership across every TeamKids service.
Sarah Barber works closely with our Executive Leadership Team, operational leaders, and schools to strengthen child safe practices, support our Educators, and ensure our policies, training, and systems continue to reflect best practice.
Her role helps ensure child safety remains at the centre of every decision we make, giving families, schools, and communities confidence that children are supported by strong leadership, specialist expertise, and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.
Strong leadership and governance are key to creating environments where children are safe, supported and able to thrive. In simple terms, they are the systems, decisions and people that guide how TeamKids operates and ensure child safety remains at the centre of everything we do.
That commitment begins long before your child attends one of our services. It influences how we recruit and train our Educators, the policies and procedures that guide their practice, the way our services are supported and supervised, and how concerns are identified and responded to across the organisation.
Creating a child safe environment is an ongoing responsibility, not something we consider a one-time task. Our Leadership Teams regularly review our practices, learn from feedback and operational experiences, and strengthen our systems to ensure they continue to reflect best practice and meet the evolving needs of children and families.
Listening to children is also central to this approach. We want every child to feel heard, respected and confident to share their ideas or concerns with trusted adults. Families are equally important partners, and open communication helps us better understand and support every child in our care.

Every child deserves to be cared for by adults who are well prepared, well supported and committed to their safety and wellbeing. At TeamKids, we know that confidence is built through the people who care for children each day, which is why we invest in careful recruitment, ongoing training, strong leadership and continuous learning across our organisation.
Our commitment to child safety is embedded throughout our recruitment and screening processes, from interviews and reference checks to onboarding and ongoing compliance requirements. Child safety remains a key consideration at every stage.
Before working with children, Educators complete induction training covering child safety, supervision, interactions with children and their responsibilities within our services. They are also introduced to the policies and procedures that guide everyday practice, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the expectations and responsibilities that come with caring for children.
As expectations and best practice evolve, so does our training. Our teams continue to receive professional development and regular updates that strengthen their understanding of child safety, mandatory reporting, appropriate interactions with children and their role in creating safe environments.
Our Educators are also supported to confidently manage the everyday situations that come with caring for children, including medical needs, effective supervision, safe arrivals and departures, behaviour guidance and emergency response procedures.
Behind every Educator is a wider network of Service Leaders, Regional Managers, operational leaders and specialist support teams who provide guidance, oversight and ongoing support. Together, they help ensure child safety remains at the centre of decision-making across the organisation.
While many people only see the friendly faces welcoming children each day, those Educators are supported by comprehensive training, strong leadership and robust systems designed to help every child feel safe, valued, seen and able to thrive.
Creating environments where children are safe means creating clear ways for concerns to be raised and responded to. At TeamKids, we want children, families and our Educators to know that if something doesn’t feel right, there are people, processes and systems in place to listen and take appropriate action.
In our programs, children are encouraged to share their ideas, experiences, questions and concerns with trusted adults in our services. Building these types of strong relationships with children helps our Educators understand each child as an individual and creates opportunities for children to feel comfortable speaking up when they need support.
Families also play an important role in this process. We encourage open communication and welcome questions, ideas, feedback and concerns, recognising that these conversations help us continually strengthen the way we operate.
Our Educators are equally supported and expected to raise concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing. Through clear reporting pathways, including our See Something, Say Something initiative, team members are encouraged to share concerns promptly so they can be reviewed and responded to appropriately.
Behind these conversations are documented policies, reporting processes and governance systems that guide how concerns are managed across the organisation. Our Leadership Team, Child Safeguarding & Wellbeing Manager and specialist support teams work together to ensure matters are assessed carefully, appropriate action is taken, and children’s safety and wellbeing remain the priority.
At TeamKids, we see every concern as an opportunity to learn and grow. Creating child safe environments is an ongoing responsibility, so we continually reflect on the way we operate and look for opportunities to strengthen what we do.
